brainstorming

our house is almost done, the operative word being almost. when we moved into our house, we began remodeling/redecorating the rooms we lived in/used the most first, moving to the ones we did not afterwards. the only space left to be done is our pantry/laundry room/mudroom and let. me. tell. you it needs some major work. not only do the walls still have a beautiful faux finish on them, but the ceiling is painted blue and the lighting is horrendous. what it does have going for it are the pretty windows and the sautio tile, which run throughout the kitchen and pantry.

my goals is for this space to function as three different spaces...

 {laundry room}

{pantry}

{mudroom}

for a room that is only 6x7, i'm sure this will definitely be a difficult task. we are going to start clearing out the space this week so we can paint.

here is a prioritized list:
  1. paint room - most likely a neutral color, go figure.
  2. install the front loading washer and dryer that my mom so graciously gifted us
  3. install a countertop on top of the washer and dryer, most likely mdf painted white
  4. build floor to ceiling shelves for the pantry component of the space. we plan on constructing them with stained wood and metal brackets to extend the farmhouse look from the rest of the house
  5. purchase three large galvanized bins like these to go under the lowest shelf; one for dog food, one for trash, and one for aluminum cans.
  6. install beadboard in the alcove by the door to create a mudroom-feel, along with hooks to hang jackets and a boot tray to put wet or dirty shoes.
  7. accessorize, accessorize, accessorize.
that last one probably sent you for a loop. accessorize a pantry/laundry room/mudroom? why, of course. i intend on adding lots of style to this little space with lots of glass jars and cannisters and plenty of cute displays with the hundreds of dishes and glasses that i have.

wish me luck.

love,
maggie

Love your ideas! You may want to hop over to shanty2chic and look at what she did with her laundry room. I'm in love with her curtains! Have you ever considered putting beadboard or beadboard wallpaper on the ceiling and painting it an accent color?
