a few new things

we've been wanting new bedding for our master bedroom for quite some time. although we absolutely love our matine toile quilt and shams from pottery barn that we got for our wedding, our duvet was starting to look a little dingy. we knew we wanted something that coordinated with our existing quilt, but we weren't exactly sure what we wanted. we both tend to like comforters better than duvets because we hate messing with the down inserts, so that was one bullet-point on our list. another thing is that we wanted it to be comfortable and to have some volume of its own. there is nothing i hate more than a flat looking bed with no volume. i know, weird. so, the week between christmas and new years, we did a little bargain shopping. we went to all the usual places --- tj max, marshalls, target, and found nothing. then, on the way to my sister's house on new years eve, we stopped off at home goods and found the perfect comforter and a burlap pillow that i told griffin i'd cry if we didnt get.

here are some pictures of the bedding on the bed with our existing matine toile quilt and shams. the blue euro shams we already had, as well as the two blue throw pillows...

during our week off, we also decided to tackle our bedroom dresser. although we loved the white pottery barn dresser that we had in our master bedroom, it was in major need of some tender love and care. my parent's bought the dresser for me as part of a bedroom suite when i was in 7th grade and it literally hadn't been touched until we decided to paint it. it definitely was looking a little dingy. because of the white board and batten treatment on the wall, we also knew that it needed to painted a contrasting color to really make a statement in the room. when we bought the bedding that had some navy in it, we decided that navy would be the perfect color. plus, we already had left-over paint from the guest bathroom vanity and you guys know how much we like using what we've got. although i thought it would take a tons of coats, it only took griffin a couple of hours to complete it.

the befores

and the afters

i still have to get some decorations for the top but i absolutely love how much it pops off the white walls.  i'm thinking maybe some ceramic white items. maybe an iron birdcage. who knows? most likely it will me tj maxx and marshalls finds.

happy tuesday everyone,
maggie

What is it with PB bedding getting dingy? I feel like ours is looking a little worse for the wear too! There must be a 2-3 year expiration date we all missed or something. Time to upgrade!

Love it! Do you have a Hobby Lobby near you? They have lots of their home accents (candlesticks, vases, etc.) on sale for 66% off right now!
