some random monday thoughts
{one} we had a wonderful weekend spending time with family. after four days of snow, we were so happy to be able to get out!! here is a picture of baird during his first snowstorm!
{two} baird had his one month doctors appointment was today and although it didn't go horrible, there was some disappointing news. like i've mentioned before, we struggled early on with breastfeeding because of his jaundice and initial problems latching on. i thought that these problems had disappeared and that we were doing great. i feed him every 2-3 hours, which typically works out to 9-10 times a day, and he always seems full. when i pump, i usually get about 2 ounces out so i assumed he was getting plenty. babies are supposed to gain an ounce a day between their two week and one month appointment. at his two week appointment, he was at 7 lbs 6 oz and today he was at 7 lbs 15 oz. while this isn't horrible weight gain, it definitely is not optimal. my doctor was optimistic, but did tell me that i would need to start supplementing with formula. while this was extremely disheartening news, i know that i have done everything i know to do to increase my milk supply. he said some women, particularly small women, have struggle producing enough milk. he said that because he is probably getting about 2/3 of what he needs from me, so i need to supplement accordingly. this does not change my plans for pumping when i go back, it simply means that everytime i breastfeed him, i will need to offer him additional milk afterwards, either milk that i pumped previously or supplement. i asked if it mattered if i fed him breastmilk one feeding then formula the next, every other time, and he said that would work fine. or i can mix the milk that i express with the amount of supplement needed and feed him that. i am sure i will figure out what works the best after a few days. aside from this, everything else looked great the doctor said.
{three} we loved/appreciated all of the wonderful comments that we got regarding the color of our front door. after thinking about it for quite some time, and of course taking into account the votes of all of you, we decided on a coral/red color. while we are going to go pick out the paint color one day this week and will let you know as soon as we pick the exact color. like many of you guys said, there is something so classic and inviting about a red front door...
our reasons for not picking the other colors were basically the hesitations i posted the other day. we thought the teal and blue may not be contrasting enough to the gray brick. we though the orange might be too 70's modern, and we thought the yellow against the black might scream bumble-bee. we did love the idea of painting it green, but decided that a coral/red color was more our style.
{four} after a few weeks of prolonging the inevitable, i finally cleaned out my closet. i kid you not when i say that i have clothes in my closet from freshman year of high school. i know, ridiculous. i decided that if i had not worn it in the last year, i was getting rid of it. after going through it once, i went through it again, making myself get rid of 10 more items. it really is ridiculous the things we hold on to for the chance that we "might wear it someday". i also took out all of my maternity clothes and boxed them up to put in the garage for next time i am preggers.
{five} i enrolled in a defensive driving program today. i got my first ticket a couple of months ago and decided to do defensive driving so the ticket would not remain on my record. i have till march 2 to do it but i figured i might as well get it done before i go back to work. boo.
{six} i got my house beautiful in the mail today, which always makes me happy...
{seven} yeah for tonight being the bachelor!!
happy monday :)

the door is going to look great!
I clean out my closet at the end of each season. Example: when winter is over I look back over all my winter items and if I didn't wear it once that season it goes. (Can't do that this year since I don't wear a lot of my usual clothes) It really seems to help!
Sorry to hear about Baird's eating! But It sounds like y'all will be on the best track now, and everything will work out great. :)
I just got done kind of cleaning out my closet, too! I Say kind of because I basically got the clothes out, but haven't gone thru shoes, purses, etc. Yiikes. :)
love the door choice, can't wait to see the final result! and yall's first snow picture is precious :)
Sorry about the weight gain issue. How frustrating. You said you were taking fenugreek - try eating a lot of oatmeal, too. That didn't help me, but rye did. (My dad makes homemade rye bread, and over Christmas break I ate a LOT of it, and my milk supply increased a TON!)
And of course, lots of water!
My mom had to supplement with formula every other feeding because I lost 20 ounces before I left the hospital. I was a "big" baby at 8.8 and 22" when I was born. After a few weeks of supplementing, I was back gaining weight better and she didn't have to supplement anymore. Also, they realized after the first few appts - that I was just going to be little. I was born in the 95% and was in the 5% at a year (my sister was the same way). My own child initially lost 12 ounces before he started gaining it back. It took my milk almost 5 days to come in - my child wasn't hungry the first 2-3 days of his life. And don't be alarmed that your only getting about 2oz when you pump now - remember your supply increases as their demand increases and a newborn only eats 1.5 - 2 oz per feeding, so I think you are right on track. You'll produce more as he needs it - just like you'll start producing less again when you start weaning him.
