boston

i'm back.....

i intended on blogging last week when i got back but it was entirely to crazy at school and around our house!! we had a wonderful time in boston but getting home right in the middle of the work week really threw us both for a whirl. not to mention the fact that we went to peanut festival this past weekend in grapeland, texas, an annual tradition in the walton household (i'll be posting on it later)

when we got back, everyone kept asking us what our favorite part of the trip was and i could never pin one specific thing down. we both loved the atmosphere of the city. although there is a wonderful public transportation system over there, we walked everywhere we went... and i mean everywhere. we probably walked anywhere between 5-7 miles a day, but it didn't feel like we were walking a ton. and the weather was b-e-a-utiful. the high was typically around 68 and the low was around 50. perfect walking temperatures.

once we got there we figured out there was plenty we wanted to see in the city so we didnt make any outside trips. the first night we were there we met my dad and cynthia for dinner in the north "italian" end of boston at an amazing resteraunt called dolce vita. they wined and dined us and it was definitely the best meal we had on the trip. on saturday,we, along with a bazillion other tourists, walked the freedom trail, which because griffin and i are both really nerdy, we thought was super cool. it was amazing to see where our forefathers fought so hard for our independence and all of the old, beautiful buildings were definitely a bonus. one of our favorite parts of the city was quincy market, where there was tons of food, shopping, and history as well.

on sunday we took the metro up to cambridge and visited harvard, which was absolutely gorgeous. i have to admit griffin and i didnt think it was that much different looking than baylor, since baylor is beautiful and all :) it was interesting to people watch while we were there. griffin wanted to pretend to be a student but he told me being with a pregnant woman kind of blew his cover. whoops. we were lucky to have scheduled our cambridge visit the day they were having ocktoberfest. there were tons of vendors set up along the streets of harvard with live music as well. we really loved the young vibe of the area. sunday afternoon we walked charles street, which had tons of fancy antique shops, and then newbury street, which has been compared to new york's 5th avenue and la's rodeo. while there were definitely tons of fancy stores, griffin and i managed to find some stores we could afford. sunday night we went to see "The Town", which i highly recommend if you have not seen it. we wanted to see it before we went to charlestown the next day.

on monday we did the last section of the freedom trail, visiting paul revere's house and the uss constitution, and then went back to quincy market for a little food and shopping. we spent the afternoon resting at the hotel for a bit and then went to see "Wall Street", which we both thought was good. we had our last dinner at a little resteraunt near our hotel and spent the rest of the night packing to come home! we had a wonderful trip but were definitely glad to be home by tuesday!!

here are some pictures from the trip... beware, there are quite a few!

love,
maggie
