The baby is as big as a: navel orange (4.5 in, 2 to 3 oz)
Well as most of you know, Griffin and I are having a baby. I have had multiple people ask why I don't really talk about pregnancy-related topics on the blog and the answer is, plain and simple, there isn't much to talk about. Like I mentioned in the original post when I spread the news, we are elated and could not be happier, but these first few months have just kind of flown by.
The first few months were pretty rough. And by pretty, I mean I was eating maybe 500 calories a day and throwing up at least twice. I fell asleep as soon as I got home from school, and usually woke up around 7:00 to attempt to eat something. Griffin was wonderful through all of this and continued working on the house by himself while I was "being pregnant"! In my What to Expect While Expecting book, it said that once you enter the second trimester, naseua and exhaustion typically go away, at least until the third trimester comes around. I hoped and prayed that this would be true, seeing as I had lost 7 pounds and my doctor was wanting me to gain those lost pounds back, as well as some more.
My 13th week, everything seemed to change. I have an insane amount of energy and, to be quite honest, can't really slow down now. With everything going on at school and around the house, I rarely get in bed before 10 or 10:30 at night. At my 12 week appointment 3 weeks ago, I was still down 5 pounds from my prepregnancy weight, but the doctor is confident that I will put it back on with some extra calories. For those of you who know me well, you know that I struggle with body image issues. I have always watched what I ate and I am worried that gaining weight is going to be difficult for me, not the process, but the emotions. I hope and pray that I am able to remember that with the increased weight comes a beautiful, healthy baby.
Because my doctor doesn't do the gender sonogram until 20 weeks, I won't be able to find out the gender of the little munchkin until August. But I do go in next Thursday, the day before we leave for Hawaii, for my monthly appointment. This appointment is a big one because it will involve a ton of bloodwork to determine if the baby shows any signs or precursors of genetic diseases, etc. Although the outcome won't change our plans for this beautiful baby, we elected to do it for peace of mind.
We have also been trying to come up with baby names, which has actually proven to be extremely difficult, especially with my husband who doesn't like ANY names. You think I am exaggeratingg, right? I read off every name I could pronounce on babynames.com last night through letter G and he liked ONE NAME. Overreacting as usual, I told him we just wouldn't name the baby and I stormed into the other room :) His concerns are legitimate I suppose. It is a pretty big deal to name your baby. They will carry it around with them for the rest of their life.
Although we cannot agree with a boy name, we do have a girl name, which we both completely adore
Kate Elizabeth Walton --- Elizabeth is my middle name and there is just something classic about the name Kate. We both are obsessed with it :)
I tend to lean towards classic names while Griffin tends to like more trendy names. I just don't like the idea of my child having 10+ other kids in his/her grade with the same name. I think there is something special about having a name that not everyone else has. Anywhoo, we do have a couple of boys names we are thinking about, but none that we are in LOVE with yet.
With that being said, if you have any ideas for unique boy names that you aren't planning on using yourself, please send them my way. I know we still have plenty of time but we want to name the baby once we find out if it is a boy or a girl!
love,
Maggie
p.s. we painted our hallway last night so be watching for a hallway reveal later today once i've accessorized.
p.s.s 9 days until Hawaii :)

aw Kate is such a cute name : )
I agree--I do not want my kids having a very popular name. I feel bad for all the kids who have to look around to see if someone is really talking to them, or one of the 12 other Katie's!
I love the name! I've been waiting for a pregnancy post. I'm a somewhat new reader and you kept mentioning a nursery so I wasn't sure if you were pregnant or just planning ahead! Congrats!!
kate is such a classic name, you really can't go wrong with it. and i've always loved elizabeth. in fact, because you were soooo stinking cute when you were a kid, i always named my baby dolls maggie elizabeth :) no lie! mmmmm i'll be thinking about boy names. breckin was always my favorite boy name that we never got to use. probably too trendy for you. casey was the same way- we'd read through the entire baby name book and he would have some smart A response for every name! LOL. maggie, pleeeeease don't stress yourself out about the weight gain. your body will adjust to whatever weight you end up gaining during pregnancy, and you will lose it in no time! just let yourself enjoy this one time in your life where you DON'T have to have body image issues! i'm so excited for y'all to go to HI.
thanks so much for the encouragement ladies!! and please, please, please, let me know if you come up with any cute names!!
and lissa, I am going to talk to griffin tonight about Breckin... i think it is too cute! Another one I like that I am sure you will like is campbell!

Yay Maggie! I'm so excited for you and Griffin! Good luck with the names and I'm excited to follow your blog through this!
