This verse has been my favorite since I became a social justice fanatic my freshman year of high school:Wherewith shall I come before the LORD, and bow myself before the high God? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves of a year old? Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? Micah 6:6-8
These verses in Micah remind us of the conditions God placed on his promises to Abraham in Genesis and the directions that God gave Israel through Moses in Deuteronomy. While many believers question how it is that the Lord calls us to live out our faith in the world, I believe these three verses give an extremely clear description.
First, God wants us to do justly. To me, it means doing what it right, doing what is honest, and doing what is fair. God's Word gives us a plethora of examples on how it is that God calls us to be in the world. There are examples of individuals who fail to act justly and examples of individuals who are world changers, the most obvious being God in the form of Jesus Christ.
Second, God wants us to love mercy. God explicitly orders us to show genuine care and concern for others, particularly those who are most disenfranchised from society. By allowing God to act inside of us, we are better able to serve others and thus, transform the world.
Third, God wants us to walk humbly with God's self. God wants, more than anything, to have an intimate relationship with us. It is out of our relationship with God that we are given the strength to do justly and love mercy.

this is also one of my favorites because i can always remember it (thanks to a song we sang at glc). i love the "he has shown thee" because that is what it's all about...any time we don't have the answer to something, HE has shown us through His example.
